Les Papillons

The Dordogne region of France offers much more than any other region with its infinitely varied landscape ranging from gently rolling hills dotted with picturesque villages jagged cliffs and deeply wooded hills and valleys.  Deer and wild boar still roam free and man has not spoilt the natural beauty.

The house is an old stone built farmhouse situated in a most beautiful part of the Dordogne valley; it is close to the river with a footpath to the riverside where you can swim or hire a Canoe.

Two and half acres of garden and potager surround the house for peaceful sun-bathing or reading under the shade of mature trees, in the fields around grow crops of maize, tobacco and sunflowers.

There are excellent views of four Châteaux that can be seen from the house and garden.

Beynac village with its towering medieval Château is close by.

Les Papillons is situated on the road between Beynac and La Roque Gageac.

Both Beynac and La Roque Gageac are two of the most beautiful villages of the region with houses built out of the cliff side and down to the gentle river edge.

Sarlat is the nearest large town, with supermarkets and a Saturday and Wednesday street traders market just 10km away.

Sarlat has a medieval town centre and offers great shopping, excellent restaurants.  At night the towns narrow cobbled streets, lit by gaslights, are filled with outdoor restaurants and the entertainment of musicians, jugglers, acrobats and fire-eaters.

Villages of the Dordogne compete to hold the best festival and fireworks displays and challenge competitors to knock them off floating barrels on the river.

It is important to note that this area's natural beauty does not decrease but only changes colour with the seasons; autumn winter and spring are equally wonderful times to visit.  With this in mind we are open all year and have installed full central heating for those colder days.
